Happy New Year! Today I'll be sharing my 2016 makeup favourites. I've thought about which products I wanted to feature in this post and decided to include all products I've loved the most in the past year, instead of just the products that were released or new to me in 2016.
Starting with eye makeup, I stayed true to loving mostly warm tones. In the first half of the year my most loved products were the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette and the Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette along with the Maybelline Color Tattoo in 93 Creme de Nude Cream Eyeshadow which I've used as a primer/eyeshadow base. When I was travelling I only took the NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia and a couple of Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks with me, but ended up using the shade Rosegold the most, before I purchased the Master Palette by Mario and the Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palettes, both released by Anastasia Beverly Hills. Picking just one from the bunch would be super difficult for me, but right now I would probably choose the Modern Renaissance palette, because I love the balance and a variety of different finishes of the eyeshadows included, as well as their blendability, pigmentation and warm undertones.
As far as bronzing and highlighting my skin goes, I've been loving the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow Palette the most. This is a quite pricey item, but considering how much I've been using it and how well both of the shades match me, it's worth the price and is truly one of the items I would immediately repurchase after using up.
Regarding powder I was the most impressed with the Prime and Fine Mattifying Powder from Catrice this past year. It is finely milled, doesn't add any color to the skin and doesn't look cakey, while still having a decent mattifying longevity on the skin.
For blush I've been shifting between mauve, dusty pink and peachy shades. The Catrice Defining Blush in 020 - Rose Royce was my pick whenever I was in doubt of which shade to wear, while the Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush in Rapture was my first choice in the cooler months. But since purchasing the Wet'n'Wild ColorIcon Blush in Pearlescent Pink I basically haven't worn anything else. A special mention also goes to the Benefit Coralista blush and their Hoola Bronzer which I've used when travelling (I have depotted versions in a Z-palette so they're not the most photo-friendly).
I've added some new favourites to my base products. The Catrice Liquid Camouflage was a favourite most of the year, especially after the brand decided to add another lighter shade in the beginning of the year. Besides it, I've also been using & loving two old favourite concealers - the Maybelline Fit Me and Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, which have been joined by the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer and the Maybelline Matte & Poreless Foundation. An honorable mention also goes to the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and Bourjois 123 Perfect Colour Correcting Cream, both of which I've used up this year and plan on repurchasing, which is a testament to how much I liked them.
For my eyelashes I've fallen in love with three products. I've discovered the Benefit They're Real Tinted Lash Primer which makes a surprising difference in my lashes and creates the effect of me wearing false lashes, especially when paired with the Lash Sensational Mascara from Maybelline. Before trying it, I was in love with the Chanel Le Volume Mascara, which has quickly became a definite favourite. For eyeliner I've been using the Clio Kill Black Brush Liner and don't plan on switching to another brand anytime soon. It's tip is super precise and the formula lasts all day without smudging, fading or flaking, and it still works like new after I've had it for more than 6 months.
I don't have as many lip favourites as most bloggers had this year, because I have a hard time wearing drying liquid lipstick formulas. Still, the formula that impressed me the most was from The Balm and their two shades in Sincere and Committed from the Meet Matt(e) Hughes range are so perfect, shade and formula wise. Another favourite for me was from the Tom Ford Lips & Boys range in the shade Addison, which is pretty much the perfect pinky nude for me, along with the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy which I keep on mentioning because of its hydrating formula and shade that goes with any makeup look.
My last favourite goes to the Sephora Collection Citrus Brush Cleaner which does its job perfectly, cleansing the brushes and making them ready to use within seconds again, while leaving them scented with a refreshing citrusy aroma.
What were some of your beauty favourites from last year? Are there any particular launches you're looking forward to in the new year?
