2014 Beauty Favourites

Today I'm sharing my favourite products from 2014. This year passed by sooo quickly and I think I can honestly say that it was one of the best years so far. I spent 8 amazing weeks in Northern California (San Francisco area + a short trip to Los Angeles) where I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with some incredible people that will forever remain in my memories (I'll be sharing some of my favourite moments from this year on my Instagram in the following days). Other than that this year was also filled with a lot of beauty discoveries, especially brands that aren't so easily available back at home, which makes me so angry and gives me another excuse to travel more.

bareMinerals The Magic Act Palette - Review & Swatches

The end of this year is fast approaching and I wanted to share a quick review for one of my favourite purchases from December - The Magic Act Palette by bareMinerals. I've fallen in love with this brand about two years ago, when I first tried their mineral foundation and have pretty much been impressed with anything I've tried from them since. I'm happy to let you know that this palette did not disappoint me either.

Simple Everyday Make up

Happy Holidays Everyone! I hope you had a nice day yesterday celebrating Christmas and are looking forward to New Year now. I won't be going anywhere special and will probably spend the night with my family. Today I wanted to share a simple Make up look that has been my everyday look for the past couple of weeks.

OPI The Bearest Of Them All

I got so excited when I spotted this Holiday gift set on line back in November I immediately had to order it. I finally tried it on last week and I fell even more in love. How cute is the polar bear that comes with the polish? You can even hang it on your Christmas tree!

Mac & The Body Shop Haul from Vienna

A couple of weeks ago I went to Vienna and since both MAC and The Body Shop stores were right next to our hotel I just had to make a stop at both and pick up a couple of items.

New in #1 / Haul

These past couple of weeks have been pretty bad for my wallet with all the holidays and gift buying. With all the offers I of course had to get a couple of things for myself as well and will be sharing some of the products that arrived so far in this post. There will be another post on Friday where I will share my purchases from my trip to Vienna, where I stopped at Mac & The Body Shop, so make sure you come back for that as well.

Chanel Fall Nail Polishes (625 - Secret, 631 - Orage)

I remember exactly when I purchased my first Chanel nail polish. It was the shade 461 - Blue Satin (a beautiful dark navy with micro shimmer) as a special treat. I repeated that a couple of more times and since then this has grown into a bad habit. I look forward to their releases about 4 or 5 times each year and get excited every time I see a fun color when I don't already have something too similar. It's a fact that Chanel makes the best red polishes, but I've been collecting their coveted shades, unless they are bright pinks, because I can't seem to imagine myself ever wearing them.

L'occitane Haul (More gifting ideas)

A couple of weeks ago I placed an online order at Loccitane looking for gifts and something to treat myself with and I wanted to share what I got. This was the first time I decided to buy from them online, because I normally just stop by one of their stores in Ljubljana. My order arrived quickly and was nicely wrapped so I'll definitely be ordering from their web store again.

What's inside my travel make-up bag (Holiday Party edition)

Last weekend I attended a Holiday Party and today I wanted to share some products that I took with me. The look I was going for was very glam, since it was a dressy black-tie event, so I mainly took with me products that I've tested out before and knew they would last on my skin well for an entire evening.
Mixa Balancing Cream - my go to moisturizer
Nuxe Micelle solution - I had this in travel sized packaging so I decided to bring it with me and try it out for the first time and so far I really liked it
Loccitane Almond Hand Cream - I love the scent of it and the way it leaves my hands soft and moisturized
Caudalie Beauty Elixir - I don't use this as a toner, but usually during the day (or when travelling) to freshen up the skin a bit. I love the herbal minty scent.
Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil - I used this on my hair ends and all over the body. It smells divine and leaves the skin feeling soft without an oily residue
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater - I'm using this spray as a toner for my face at the moment and it feels so hydrating! The scent is subtle and doesn't linger on the skin.
Nuxe Fondant Fondant Shower Gel - I fell in love with the scent (sweet and almond-y) and it left the whole bathroom smelling divine
Now let's continue with the best part - make up. For creating a flawless base I used:
Nars Radiant Creamy concealer - This is hands down the best concealer I've used so far. I'm so happy I finally have a concealer that doesn't look too yellow or too dark on my skin. The formula is thicker than I was usually used to, but this just makes covering blemishes and other irregularities on the skin easier.
Bourjois CC Cream - I used this the next morning instead of a foundation, so I didn't look like a complete zombie.
Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet - I love this foundation because it feels like silk when I apply it to my skin. It helps to make it look more matte and has a buildable medium coverage.
Benefit The Porefessional - I used it before applying make up to minimise the appearance of my pores and make the base stay on a little longer.
Maybelline Age Rewind Dark circle eraser - my go to under eye concealer. It helps to brighten the area and makes the under eye darkness disappear.
Urban Decay Primer Potion - My favourite eye shadow primer. I usually use this everyday so Saturday night was no exception. It helps the eye shadows stay on a lot longer and they don't crease or loose their intensity.
Manhattan Compact Powder - I used this translucent setting powder to keep my foundation and concealer in place and keep it from looking too oily. It's not truly translucent because it can look a bit white if I apply it too much so this is probably not the best product for someone with a darker complexion.
Dior 796 Cuir Cannage & Urban Decay Naked palettes: I used the bottom three shades in the Dior palette to create a classy smokey eye and then added some Half Baked eyeshadow from the Naked palette on top, for more sparkle.
Chanel Le Volume Mascara - lovely mascara with a nice brush that defines the lashes and adds volume.
Essence Clear Lash and Brow mascara - I used it on my eyebrows to keep them in place after I used the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil to define them.
Max Factor 2000 Calorie - this is my favourite mascara that is like magic in a little tube. It adds volume, length and layers well without making the lashes look clumpy.
Rimmel Scandaleyes Khol Liner & Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on pencils, Stila Liquid Eye liner - I used these on the waterline, to tightline and to draw a thin line for more definition.
I also used the Individual False Eyelashes from Tanya Burr, but I forgot to add them in the photo.
I was a bit unsure about what I was going to wear on my lips, so I packed more products, but I decided on wearing the Essence Lip Liner and the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy.
On my cheeks I used the Lancome Blush Subtil (with the Real Techniques Blush Brush) and the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette to add more definition and light to my face.
Some finishing touches:
Urban Decay All-nighter setting spray - great at keeping the make up in place. Just be careful to not overuse it.
Chanel Coco Noir Eau de Parfum - an elegant and sophisticated scent I chose for the night.
Essence All about matt blotting papers - not the best out there, but they do the job fine.
Dior 803 Metal Montagne Nail polish - a beautiful metallic silver with blue undertones. This was my first Dior polish and the application is very simple, because it comes with a pretty big brush. But I'm unsure about the formula, because it chipped on the second day already.
Shiseido Eyelash Curler -  a must have
Brushes: Sephora 18 Pro Shader, Eco Tools Eyeliner Brush, Jessup 217 blending brush & the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I just started using it, but so far I really like the natural finish it leaves on the skin.

What are some of your make up essentials for the upcoming party season?

Hourglass Ambient Lightning Blush Palette - Review & Swatches

I've mentioned this palette a few weeks ago in my Wishlist/Gift Guide post and decided to get it as a treat for myself. I was planning on getting the Mood Exposure blush by itself around the time when they announced Hourglass was coming out with this limited edition palette so I decided to wait and get it, because of it's better value. The palette features three shades of Ambient Lighting Blush that create seamless, soft-focus and multidimensional colour.

November Favourites

Another month has passed by and we're soon approaching Christmas (Yaay, I'm already excited for that!) and New Year. I've mostly stuck to using products that I've had for a while and are my favourites in general, not just this month.

Dior - '796' Cuir Cannage Eyeshadow Palette

This Cuir Cannage Eyeshadow Palette is my first ever make up item purchased from Dior so I'm super excited to share my thoughts about it. I've used a perfume from them before, but was somehow never drawn to their make up line. This very quickly changed when I saw this beauty! Like Chanel, Dior also reinvented the formulation for their iconic 5 Couleurs and this palette features a mix of different textures and finishes.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow - Review & Swatches

Let's continue with the reviews for this epic week like I promised on Monday. Charlotte Tilbury is a well known make-up artist, who created her own luxury make-up line last year, but it became more widely available around the world in the last few months. I purchased it this palette back in August and I don't really know why it took me so long to feature it on the blog because I absolutely love it!

Chanel Tissé Rivoli #226 Review & Swatches

When it comes to make up I can get a bit carried away sometimes. In the past month this has happened quite a couple of times as you will be able to see and read in the posts that are coming this week. But I still think that it's better to buy something more expensive that you absolutely love and know you'll be using a lot than a cheap item you're just ok with and it ends up sitting in your collection and you don't even end up using.
I fell in love with this Quadra as soon as I saw some photos on-line (mainly comparisons with the Poesié Quadra) and when I saw both in person I had a hard time deciding which one to pick, because they are both so beautiful! Tissé Rivoli is one of the eight permanent reformulated Multi-Effect Quadras from Chanel. Their surface is made to resemble the texture of a classic Chanel Tweed Jacket and this is why they reflect the light in a gorgeous way.

Tanya Burr Individual Eyelashes

I have a big fancy event coming up soon, so I decided it was about time to finally try some false eyelashes. A famous youtuber - Tanya Burr recently expanded her make up line and included a range of false lashes so I thought I would give them a go.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette

Urban Decay is one of my favourite make up brands and so far I haven't tried anything from them that I didn't like. I LOVE their original Naked palette which was my main eye shadow palette for the longest time, until I finally branched out and got a couple of other things. The Naked 3 Eyeshadow Palette was released around this time last year, but I got it a couple of months later and I really like it. It is rose hued, so every eyeshadow is a neutral with a pinkish-rosy undertone.
It includes 12 different shades with ranging finishes, from matte, pearly, shimmery and metallic that come in a tin case. Every palette includes a double ended shadow and blending brush and 4 samples of their amazing Eyeshadow Primer Potion (Original, Sin - my favourite eyeshadow primer at the moment!, Eden and Anti-Ageing). All eyeshadows are well pigmented, with the exception of Dust which really seems like glittery dust and doesn't apply well.  I love that I can just sweep my brush in the eyeshadow once and pick up all the product I need.
Eyeshadows are creamy, blend well and you can literally create countless combinations with them for work, school or nights out. There are a lot more shimmering colors than mattes but it suits my skin which has a neutral undertone. Unlike their other palettes I've tried I've experienced some fallout here (mainly with shades Dust and Buzz), which can be annoying when you're applying darker shades - it helps if I tap the brush before applying the eyeshadow so some excess product can fall out.

Shade descriptions and swatches:
- Strange: Pale Neutral Pink Matte-Satin
- Dust: Pale Metallic Pink Shimmer with Iridescent Micro-Glitter
- Burnout: Light Pinky-Peach Satin
- Limit: Light Dusty Rose Matte
- Buzz: Metallic Rose Shimmer with Silver Micro-Glitter
- Trick: Light Metallic Pinky-Copper Shimmer with Tonal Micro-Sparkle
- Nooner: Medium Pinky-Brown Matte
- Liar: Medium Metallic Mauve Shimmer
- Factory: Pinky-Brown Satin
- Mugshot: Metallic Taupe Shimmer with Slight Pink Shift
- Darkside: Deep Taupe-Mauve Satin
- Blackheart: Smoky Black Matte with Rosy Red Micro-Sparkle
If you're deciding between this one and the other two Naked Palettes I'd say it's still better to buy the first one, because rose hued eyeshadows might not be suitable for all skin tones - it's best if you can check it out in person and decide when you see it there. But if you already own the first one (or two) this can be a great addition to your collection. I would also consider it a great gift for the up coming holiday season.

The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette is available at Sephora (US) and FeelUnique (UK/Europe).

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm Review

Lip balm is one of the few products I always keep within arms reach. My lips get dry easily and whenever the weather gets colder they also get badly chapped. For the longest time I was only using Labello lip balms (they are still one of my favourite brands) since they were available in every store around and are such an iconic product.
Let's rewind to a couple of months ago when I first tried the Caudalie Lip Conditioner (review here) and fell completely in love with it and then because of all the hype also decided to get the Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm.
If you have extremely problematic, dry, chapped, cracked lips this balm will be great for you. It has a very heavy, solid texture and goes on as a pretty thick layer when applied on the lips. Unlike other lip balms that I've tried this one leaves a matte finish on the lips and feels a bit gluey but you get used to it quickly. It feels very moisturizing, nourishing and luxurious on the lips, and the citrusy-honey fragrance is divine!
At first I was using it at day time but I found it to be too heavy, so I decided to apply it overnight and my lips next morning were surprisingly softer and much smoother. I know some people might have an issue with a balm that is not in a tube or a stick, because you have to use your finger to apply it, but I always make sure I carry a hand sanitizer or wipes with me, so that's not an issue (but they also make this in a stick version so that can't stop you from trying it out;)).
Let me know about any lip balm recommendations you have or thoughts and experiences with this one.

The Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm is available for £9.50 from FeelUnique here (I recommend getting this gift set which also includes their amazing Reve de Miel Hand Cream).

Rimmel Scandaleyes Stick in 003 - Bad Girl Bronze (Review & Swatches)

Another review for an affordable and great eye product from Rimmel. The Scandaleyes Stick is a cream eyeshadow in a stick and works similar to the Maybelline Color Tattoo. It's great to wear as a base color or on its own. Because of its longevity it can also double as a primer since they really help the eyeshadow stay on. It's compact in size and can easily fit into any make up bag that you take on the go for any touch ups during the day.
The product comes in a pencil and is creamy and blendable. You can apply it lightly for a subtle daytime look, or layer it up and add some eyeshadow for a smokey eye. I usually apply it all over the lid and then blend it with my ring finger, which works better than using brushes. My eyelids are pretty oily and very few products have a lasting power as advertised unless I use a primer underneath, but these really last between 6 to 8 hours on their own.
I've been using the Bad Girl Bronze for a couple of months now and it is a lovely shimmery warm bronze color. It brings out the color of my eyes and doesn't look too dark and gothy. When blended out it loses its vibrancy a bit - some of the shimmer stays on the finger I used for blending and that is truly the only minus I found - but you can always apply some more or use it as a thick liner which will give you maximum colour.
Have you tried it any of the shades yet? I'm looking forward to trying the Bulletproof Beige next.

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner Review

Another staple item that belongs in everyone's makeup bag is an (black) eyeliner. For the longest time I wasn't a fan of liquid eyeliners but seeing Miss Glamorazzi on Youtube rave about the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in a couple of her videos I decided to give it another go. My everyday make-up look is usually a soft smokey eye using neutral shades so it took me a while to start including this in my routine.

Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot Blush Palette Review

I'm pretty new to the brand Benefit (mainly because it's not easily available in my country) so I fell in love with all the Christmas sets they released this year. I wish I could get them all, but I felt like the Cheeky Sweet Spot Box of Blushes was the best one of them (considering how much product it contains) and most reasonably priced as well. The palette comes in a metal tin with a festive decoration and includes five blushers, a bronzer and a highlighter.

Lush Haul

I made a trip to Lush recently so I thought I would share what I picked up. I went there to get something for my mom, but ended up getting something for myself as well (we all know how this goes right?).

 Things I picked up:
-Buffy Shower Scrub - my mom asked me to get this for her since it's one of the rare products she keeps repurchasing over and over for the past 3 years, so it must be good! She uses it once a week and it keeps her skin soft and supple.
-Mask of Magnaminty - I picked this up because I remembered reading a couple of reviews online comparing it to one of the GlamGlow's masks and since this is a much more affordable option I decided to pick it up. I haven't tried it yet, but will definitely post my thoughts about it once I do!
-Sweet Soap of Mine (Rockstar and The Godmother bars together) - I've never tried any of their soaps but I've instantly fallen in love with the scent of this combo, it's so dreamy and sweet!
Have you tried any of these? Let me know in the comments if you have or what are some of your other favourites from Lush.

October Favorites

Another months has flown by so it's time for a favorites post! Most of these products I would consider all-time favorites and staples in anyone's make up collection.

Lancome Hypnôse Doll Eyes Palette in Rose du Marin

I'm not a single eye shadow kind of gal and I much rather use palettes which already have a selection of 3, 4 or 5 (or more) complementing shades of eyeshadows which can be used in a variety of ways to create countless looks. I try to stick to neutral colored palettes but every once in a while I get tempted to try and use something a little bit different.
The Lancome Doll Eyes Palette in Rose du Marin is a palette with 5 purple toned eyeshadows. The shadows are soft, blendable and easy to use. With these shades you can create a number of different looks. The shadows can be used dry or wet for a more dramatic look and better color payoff.
The palette includes a double ended applicator and a small brush, along with a pretty big mirror which makes it a perfect companion for travelling. The double ended applicator has a sponge tip on one side, which you can use to colour the eyelid and add a touch of light in the inner corner of the eye, and a flocked tip to highlight the arch of the eyebrow and to draw a perfect line if you're using the shadows wet as an eyeliner. Included brush is soft and perfect for sculpting the eye, adding depth into the crease and blending.
The packaging feels sturdy, but the palette doesn't come with a velvety pouch that luxury brands usually include. The closure is magnetic so you shouldn't worry about it opening if you decide to carry it with you or travel with it.
Swatches of the shades (they don't look their best here, sorry!). They are all well pigmented except for the lightest shade which contains micro glitter and wasn't photographing the best. I've found a couple of tutorials on the official Lancome's Youtube site which were helpful with ideas for creating different looks, especially if you are a beginner with eyeshadows, since the palette doesn't come with illustrations of sampled looks (like the Chanel does for example).
If you're interested in trying this out they're available in four different color combinations here.

L'Oreal Paris Glam Shine Stain Splash Review

Lately my love for lip glosses and lipsticks has been growing. For the longest time I was only using lip balms (sometimes tinted), but somehow I've gradually transitioned into liking other lip products as well. I'm still not 'brave' enough to wear a bold (red) lip for everyday, but I'm starting to be ok with wearing shades on my lips that resemble my natural lip color or enhance it.
One of my favourites at the moment are the L'Oreal Glam Shine Stain Splash glosses/stains that are often referred to as a dupe for a more expensive lip stain from YSL. They come in very wearable colors and have a semi-sheer but buildable finish. If you want the color to show slightly apply one coat, two will give you a nice stain and three a very visible coloring.
The color lasts on me despite drinking and eating for around 5-6 hours which is surprisingly long in my opinion. They feel hydrating and just slightly sticky, which helps with their longevity. Application is easy and precise with a small tear drop shaped soft wand that holds just enough product. On the lips they feel light and comfortable and have a pleasant scent. The packaging doesn't look cheap and feels luxurious.

Urban Decay Naked 24/7 Glide On Double Ended Eye Pencil Review

With the release of the Naked palettes Urban Decay also created eye pencils that would suit and complete the looks you can create with each palette. My favourite UD palette is the original one so I decided to give a try to the Glide On Double Ended Eye Pencil in the shade 'Naked'.
Each pencil includes two liner shades inspired by its namesake palette. These Double-Ended Pencils are highly pigmented, glide on smoothly, stay creamy for blending and dry down to a waterproof finish that won’t budge once it sets. They are long-wearing and from my experience suitable for sensitive eyes.
The pencil called Naked includes the shades 'Zero' and 'Whiskey'. Zero is a rich true black cream and Whiskey a not-too-dark-not-too-light brown matte.
I love using the black shade Zero to tight line and the brown Whiskey for lining my eyes when I'm going for a subtle natural look. I usually set the brown shade with some eyeshadow from one of the Naked palettes and it seriously doesn't move anywhere for an entire day!
Whiskey and Zero swatched.
These double ended pencils also cost less then singles so it's a great way to test them out. They are available here (doubles) and here (single shades).

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadow Review

Today I would like to review one of my everyday staples in my make up routine - the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Eyeshadows. Sometimes you just want a product that is easy to apply but actually looks like you've taken some time to make it look this way.

Palmer's Coconut Body Butter Review

With colder months approaching my skin is getting dryer so I tend to use more creamy and nourishing products to take care of this problem. Lately I've been trying (& loving) the Palmer's Coconut Body Butter as a more affordable option for The Body Shop's body butters.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Review & Swatches

I love trying out drugstore products especially if they perform equally well as their high end twins. Eye liners are one of my favourite make up items (besides mascaras) to try out so I'm really glad whenever I find a great one and the Scandaleyes Kohl Kajal by Rimmel does not disappoint.

September Favorites

Wow, where is this year going? September has seriously flown by in a blink of an eye and we're getting closer and closer to winter and new year. Since it's October already it's time to share some of my monthly favorites with you again.

Rimmel Apocalips Review

You might remember that around this time last year every beauty blogger and youtuber was raving about the Rimmel Apocalips glosses/lip lacquers. And when was the last time you recently saw someone use them/talk about them? This just shows again that the beauty world is filled with sponsored content and makes you wonder about the legitimacy of their claims and *must have* lists.
I usually try to avoid getting sucked into the hype surrounding some products and actually wait after the initial release to see how the products really gets accepted. I mean if you're sent something by a brand and only use it to swatch and maybe apply it once or twice before writing or filming a review I don't think your opinion can actually contain a valid point besides *I love it!* or *I hate it!*. But let's get over this Saturday rant and actually tell you something about the product itself.
Rimmel Apocalips is a lip product that is somewhere between a lipstick and a gloss. They are very pigmented and have a solid staying on power, without the need to re-apply (around 3,5 - 4 hours for me). These have a lasting color and pigmentation you would get when using a lipstick and a glossy finish we're used to from a gloss.
I picked up the shades Luna, Big Bang and Celestial.
They don't cling and emphasize dry lips and feel very comfortable once on the lips. Because they are so pigmented you should apply them with a mirror, but the application itself is very simple. I especially love the applicator which has a small hole in the back where a sufficient amount of product for application gets stored. Their texture is lovely, smooth and not at all sticky. The only downside in my opinion is the fake watermelon(?) scent that will surely be off-putting to some.
Swatches: Luna (soft orange-coral) - Celestial (wearable everyday pink) - Big Bang (red).
My favourite shade is Big Bang which is a perfect red with a blue undertone that will work great later this year for the holiday season.
The color selection is pretty big and I'm thinking of adding a couple more. Do you have any recommendations?
